HPA's Chief Executive takes up new opportunity with Heart Foundation

28 Jun 2019

The Health Promotion Agency/Te Hiringa Hauora’s (HPA) Chief Executive Clive Nelson is leaving to take up a new position as Chief Executive of the Heart Foundation.

Mr Nelson has been head of HPA since its inception in 2012.

Announcing his resignation today, Mr Nelson said it was a privilege to shape and lead the talented team at the HPA over the last seven years.

“I know the agency will continue to go from strength to strength as the organisation is in great shape and well-placed to face the future,” he said.

“It’s certainly not an easy decision to decide to move but the opportunity to lead the Heart Foundation in its work to fight New Zealand’s biggest killer was too important to turn down.”

Mr Nelson takes up his new role in August.

HPA Board Chair Jenny Black said she was sorry to be losing such an experienced and talented Chief Executive.

“In the six months I have worked with Clive, he has provided me with terrific support as I have familiarised myself with the organisation. Clive has been with HPA since its inception and his seven years of leadership has resulted in a strong organisation, well thought of externally, and ready to face the challenges and opportunities within the health sector,” she said.

“The future is bright and this is due in no small way to his dedication, knowledge and experience in the NZ Health sector and we thank him most sincerely.”
