Orthopaedic services provide specialist acute and elective surgery for musculoskeletal problems.
Acute services include:
- recreation related trauma
- road accidents
- bone and joint infections
- fractures associated with osteoporosis and the aging population.
Elective services include:
- a full range of hip, knee, foot and ankle and shoulder surgery
- paediatric, spinal, hand and arthroscopic surgery.
Dunedin Hospital performs scoliosis surgery for all of the South Island.
Fracture clinics are for people who have had an injury and have been treated in the Emergency department, where further follow-up of that injury is needed.
Outpatient clinics are for patients referred for a specific problem or follow up after planned surgery.
