The Neurosurgery service is a South Island regional service with 2 sites, Dunedin and Christchurch hospitals.
The Neurosurgery service provides specialist inpatient and outpatient services to patients who have surgical conditions of the central nervous system. The Neurosurgical Team provides specialist care to patients with trauma to the brain and spinal cord, haemorrhage and tumours of the brain and spinal cord. Elective surgery includes spinal surgery where there is nerve involvement.
An acute service for emergencies is provided 24 hours a day. Non-urgent services are accepted from healthcare providers and triaged by urgency.
Outreach clinics are conducted at Southland, Oamaru and Dunstan hospitals.
